Spokane Home Builders Association Continues to Fight for Attainable Housing in Spokane

Did you know that for every $1,000 in cost to the construction of a new home, 221 families in Spokane are priced out of building their own home? At Spokane Home Builders Association, our mission is to create attainable housing options for our community. That is why we fight to minimize fees and regulations so that we can help people realize their dream of building their own home. Not only that, but new home construction alleviates pressure on existing inventory, which is at historic lows in our community. Without enough new residential construction, existing homes remain occupied and rental markets are also affected.

We have seen this situation made worse during the last few months. While many of us turned to DIY projects during quarantine, members of the Spokane Home Builders Association were sitting at home not allowed to complete the same projects many of us were. While advocacy efforts did get our industry back to work before any other sector, new regulations and requirements have slowed down the process and added to the cost of building homes.

Now more than ever it is essential that we do all we can the make sure building a home continues to be an affordable option for our community. If you are interested in how you can be a part of advocating for attainable housing, please visit our website, shba.com/advocacy. Together we can build a future for our community, one home at a time.
