John Michel Barros
November 7, 1950 - August 2, 2025
John “Johnny” Barros passed away on August 2, 2025. John passed away of natural causes at his home. John faced life challenges with his own special light. John was born blind, mentally and physically disabled but those did not stop him in impacting countless lives with his warmth and joy.

At age 10 Johnny moved to Lakeland village in Medical Lake, Washington where he lived for two decades before thriving at SOLA-State operating alternatives in Spokane Valley. John had a love for weather, and weather forecasting. He became well known on the local radio and TV stations, calling to ask the weather reporters for the forecast. Nothing made John happier than the forecast for a thunder storm! The kindness he showed will always be a treasure to the family.

Johny did not have many needs: a sturdy rocking chair a steady supply of radios, a mocha and an occasional burger and fries made his world complete.

He is survived by his Sister Sandy Koperick, Tri-Cities, Washington; brothers Gary Barros, Palm Springs, Califonia and Bob Barros who served as John’s guardian for 50 wonderful years, Loganville, Georgia. Family friends Stacie and Graig Lee, Olympia Washington and John’s SOLA Family, Spokane Valley, Washington.

The Barros Family would like to extend their gratitude to the various SOLA staff over the years that provided great support to John for 30+ years.

A Celebration of life is being held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 11am-1pm at Mirabeau Meadows Picnic Shelter, 13500 E. Mirabeau Parkway, Spokane Valley, Washington 99216.
