Operation Dog Tag is a fantastic organization that has changed my life. I believe that all veterans in need should have the opportunity to own a service dog. In my case, my two tours in Iraq left me with survivor’s guilt and a lot of anger. Now how do you go back to a normal life after experiencing such trauma? Most people would say move on or just get over it. For myself, I became withdrawn from society and I was a different person. Most people can’t relate to this transition. Wives, husbands and kids are confused about their loved ones. I knew that I needed help; medication and therapy was only touching the surface. I decided that I needed a companion. I called Operation Dog Tag and said that I have a dog that I love, please help me. I can’t function without him; the response was amazing. My special little guy was accepted with open arms by Joe Scheffer, an amazing trainer. He has been training dogs since 1976. Joe is a combat veteran and he knows his stuff. I just want to say thank you.
I’m sleeping better, my anxiety is down and most importantly, I have a purpose in life now.
